## What is Cosmetic Physicochemical Testing?

An agreed profile of product properties and specifications.

### Why do you need this service?
Physicochemical testing profiles selected product properties against an agreed specification. Use it for formulation comparison, quality investigation or batch assessment, choosing measurements that answer the actual product question.

Definition
## Combined physicochemical analysis
A broad analytical workup brings several measurements together to establish a formulation baseline or investigate a quality problem. Unlike a single active assay or particle-size measurement, this service considers a selected set of properties and how they relate to the product specification.

### Core measurements
pH, using a preparation and electrode suited to the sample
- Density or specific gravity under stated conditions
- Viscosity and rheological behavior at controlled temperature and shear
- Appearance, color and odor observations
- Particle or droplet characterization where relevant
Acceptance criteria should reflect the formulation, intended use and manufacturing process. There is no universal pH range that proves skin compatibility for every facial product.

### Monitoring change
Repeating these measurements during storage or thermal-stress studies helps identify separation, thickening, color change or chemical degradation. Packaging observations may be included, but migration or ingredient-loss questions usually need targeted analytical methods.

The report should specify sample preparation, test conditions, time points and observed trends. Accelerated data can reveal weaknesses and support a stability program, but cannot automatically convert a few months of testing into a fixed multiyear shelf life. Safety and claims conclusions require evidence beyond the property profile.

Applications
## Characterising product properties
Composition, pH, viscosity and other physical measurements can help compare prototypes or investigate a change. The method and sample conditions need to match the product. A viscosity result does not directly determine skin absorption, and a spectral signal does not establish every aspect of purity.

Storage measurements can track appearance or selected components over time. Accelerated conditions can reveal instability, but weeks of exposure do not automatically represent years of shelf life or establish an accurate expiry date.

Define which specifications are approved and which remain developmental. Physicochemical data contributes to quality decisions; preservation performance, packaging compatibility, clinical efficacy and product safety require their own relevant evidence.
