## Self-assessment questionnaires
Self-assessment records how participants perceive a cosmetic product rather than measuring its effects directly with an instrument. Questionnaires can support product development and appropriately worded consumer-perception claims when their design and analysis match the intended question.

### Structured feedback collection
Questions should focus on attributes relevant to the product and intended users. Consistent scales and clearly specified assessment times make responses more comparable across participants. Surveys may be digital or paper-based and are not necessarily completed in real time.

Texture, absorption and residual feel
- Perceived moisturisation, coverage or lasting effect
- Packaging convenience and application ease
- Scent acceptability and overall satisfaction
- Purchase intent where relevant to the study
Neutral wording helps avoid steering participants toward a favourable answer. The protocol should also identify any comparator, baseline questions and restrictions on other products.

### Analysis and reporting
Analysis may summarise response distributions, agreement percentages or differences between defined groups. Demographic breakdowns and competitor comparisons are useful only when recruitment and study design support them.

Reports should state the questionnaire wording, response scale, number of respondents and handling of missing answers. Subjective satisfaction does not independently verify objective efficacy or safety. Claims based on the results should make the consumer-reported nature of the evidence clear.

Applications
## Applications of consumer self-assessment studies

### Designing the questionnaire
Define the target users, product-use instructions and assessment times. Neutral wording and pre-specified response scales help avoid leading participants. Record the sample, completion and analysis so percentages can be traced to an actual question and response base.

### Interpreting perception
Reported comfort, ease of use or perceived improvement can inform development and appropriately worded perception claims. Agreement that skin feels hydrated does not quantify water content or wrinkle reduction. A survey cannot promise fewer development iterations or a predetermined percentage of positive responses.
